This workshop is specialized in the elaboration of drums of the bomb, popular rhythm of the Afro-Ecuadorian culture. It is located in the community of San Juan de Lachas, in the Mira canton of the Carchi province. Its owner is Ezequiel Sevilla, one of the last builders of the Bomba drum. Ezequiel in his youth learned to make these percussion instruments from his father, Manuel Sevilla. He currently continues an arduous task in collecting the materials, which when assembled will make up the drum. These materials are found in the desert pampas of the Valle del Chota, as well as in the subtropical forests of the northwest of the Ecuadorian highlands, on which several black communities are settled that surpass the inter-Andean panorama of the valley. In addition to giving his pumps a very neat aesthetic and acoustic finish, this workshop keeps alive and fresh the practice of manufacturing them in all the sizes and colors that he thinks possible. Thus, its varied collection of more than thirty bombs shows the wide range of sizes (from 15 cm to 40 cm in diameter) and, consequently, the varied timbres that each one emits, from the highest tones (small bombs), to the most serious (big bombs).

The Golondrinas Protected Forest is located in the province of Carchi, in the cantons of Tulcán, Mira and Espejo. It has an extension of 1500 hectares. The Cerro Golondrinas Protected Forest encompasses montane cloud forest areas of the western foothills of the Andes, where the vegetation is stunted. The chaparro is found adjacent to paramo areas, vegetation that is dominant in the El Ángel Ecological Reserve. In the lower parts there are disturbed forests and deforested areas in regeneration; near the neighboring towns there are lands destined for agriculture (corn, pineapples, fruit trees, sugar cane, beans) and pastures for cattle. In the upper part, the unprotected areas are converted to agricultural land, mainly potato crops. The forest is a source of food for all the numerous animal birds that inhabit it. One of the most representative mammals is the spectacled bear that roams the region. Within this forest we find three attractions that enhance the value and beauty of this site: the Santa Rosa Waterfall, the Chorro Blanco Waterfall and the Blanco River. 78 species of mammals have been registered, approximately 312 species of birds, in addition to between 70 and 140 woody species, of approximately 470 existing species of flora.
