The Jubones River Desert is a place of extremes and contradictions. Aggressive and dry. Located between the provinces of Azuay, Loja and El Oro. Its geography, although mostly free of vegetation, has a special beauty for its brown mountains. Due to the action of the wind and erosion they have pointed or round, thick or thin shapes. This place, so arid and not very suitable for human life, resembles a landscape of Mars. It has an area of 1,200 hectares, with a dry and warm temperate climate. The altitude between 800 and 1,400 meters above sea level, the topography and the ecosystem of the Jubones River basin, make the winds transport all the humidity to the coastal plain. As a consequence of this natural exchange, the desert is formed. Tourists with an adventurous spirit who wish to go into the desert have several options. From Santa Isabel, Azuay or Saraguro, Loja, they can start the journey having the prudence of being accompanied by a guide. Hiking, bird watching, photography or simply admiring the landscape are among the activities. As it is a desert of deep and wrinkled ravines, the level of physical demand is high. Dry slopes, rivers, cliffs, little shade and even poisonous snakes flank the path. A good supply of water must be carried. The most spectacular view is offered by the river, which cuts through the mountains forming high cliffs of pure rock. An extraordinary place. Apart from the landscape it has fauna typical of places with little rainfall: lizards, geckos, spiders, stick grasshoppers, acacias. The Jubones basin is 4,300 km2. It has a length of 180 km. Its tributaries are the rivers: Leon, Rircay, San Francisco, Minas, Vivar, Mollepungo, Uchucay, Guanacay, Chillayaco and Casacay. It flows into the Pacific Ocean. The most touristic point of this basin is the Yunguilla Valley. Vacation homes, restaurants and small hotels are everywhere. An oasis of greenery. The hydroelectric projects Minas-San Francisco and La Union are located downstream of Jubones.

Bungee jumping is part of the wide range of activities on the agenda of community tourism in the Saraguro canton, province of Loja. This extreme sport has been practiced since August 2014 on the Sinincapac Bridge, which crosses the Chuchucil River Gorge, between Ñamarín and Gulagpamba, two kilometers before arriving in Saraguro. The bridge is located at a height of 78 meters, on a canyon. The free fall is 60 meters, leaving a wide margin of safety with respect to the river bed for the swing or pendulum movement. The origin of bungee jumping has as a precedent the falls of the climbers, who were left swinging in the air attached to a rope. Someone came up with the idea of replicating the strong sensation of vertigo, but by means of a controlled fall. Harnesses and dynamic ropes are safety features. They support the torso and ankles. This is an activity mainly for young people or people with a strong heart. Those who are interested in living the experience should contact the company "Runa Extreme". The Saraguro ethnic group, in order to generate work and entrepreneurship, dedicates its work to the development of community tourism. The respect for nature, the protection of the heritage and the revaluation of customs and traditions, are the guiding principles of this activity. Tourists can enjoy the landscape, culture, gastronomy and customs of the Saraguros. A wide range of local crafts is also available. A dairy production area, Saraguro is also nationally famous for its cheese factories.

Baño Del Inca Loja, is formed by a set of natural pools as a result of the erosion of the rocks. It is an ideal place to enjoy nature at its best. You can also camp, and at the beginning of the rainy season (January) you can see the flowering of the guayacanes. It is built of white rectangular carved stones in which the marks of the chisel are still visible. The most admirable thing in this bathroom is the carving of a stone with 12 angles, the same as the upper part, a protrusion is carved from the fall of the water in the form of a jet. The first lagoon that forms the waterfall is where the healing baths and rituals take place, when they submerge in the lagoon letting the water of the waterfall fall on their heads. Likewise, there is a natural cascade of very crystalline and silvery water that continuously feeds the water source and at its ends an extensive and fertile vegetation emerges that, according to history, served as curtains to protect the powerful Inca Atahualpa from the cold and sun. for he used to bathe in this place. Location It is located in Mangahurco, approximately two hours by car from Pindal or Zapotillo.
