The elves live near the waterfalls, where they remain in their magical celebrations until an unsuspecting person catches a glimpse of them. This legend is part of the popular imagination, which is transmitted from generation to generation, that the word never shuts up, never dies. A young man named Rolando – who is our main character – will take us through the narrative of this story. He is fishing in a river near the community. However, his activity is interrupted by the sound of approaching drums. Rolando was completely focused on fishing, so he didn't realize that the Goblin started throwing small stones at him, to get his attention. He was "entitled" as possessed by this entity of the forest. The Duende likes to see people as sleepwalkers, without wanting to do anything, they are sleepy and never want to eat, that's where his name "El Duende Vago" comes from.

San Juan de Lachas Pump Workshop
cultural

San Juan de Lachas Pump Workshop

This workshop is specialized in the elaboration of drums of the bomb, popular rhythm of the Afro-Ecuadorian culture. It is located in the community of San Juan de Lachas, in the Mira canton of the Carchi province. Its owner is Ezequiel Sevilla, one of the last builders of the Bomba drum. Ezequiel in his youth learned to make these percussion instruments from his father, Manuel Sevilla. He currently continues an arduous task in collecting the materials, which when assembled will make up the drum. These materials are found in the desert pampas of the Valle del Chota, as well as in the subtropical forests of the northwest of the Ecuadorian highlands, on which several black communities are settled that surpass the inter-Andean panorama of the valley. In addition to giving his pumps a very neat aesthetic and acoustic finish, this workshop keeps alive and fresh the practice of manufacturing them in all the sizes and colors that he thinks possible. Thus, its varied collection of more than thirty bombs shows the wide range of sizes (from 15 cm to 40 cm in diameter) and, consequently, the varied timbres that each one emits, from the highest tones (small bombs), to the most serious (big bombs).
